The Takei World Tour has been created with the aim of fulfilling the need for a transparent, reputable, professional tennis tour for the BLV (blind and low vision) tennis community, an offer which currently does not exist in the world. We chose the name Takei to honour the Japanese inventor of the sport, Miyoshi Takei, as a reminder of the dream that we share with him – to spread our beloved sport around the world.

For 2026, the tour ranking system is open to all male and female players with an in-date IBTA classification in the B1 to B4 categories. We are conscious of the shortfalls in the current classification system and will be working towards creating the Tour’s own fairer, science-based and more inclusive system for subsequent editions of the Tour. We hope to launch the new classification system for the 2027 season.
-
Players competing in any of our selected tournaments who do not hold an in-date IBTA classification in the B1 to B4 categories will not be eligible for ranking points.
-
It’s simple! In 2026, Providing you have an in-date IBTA classification in the B1 to B4 categories, all you need to do is enter one of our selected tournaments as you would normally. Players must send classification documents to info@takeitour.com to be included in the rankings.

The Takei World Tennis Tour will begin in 2026 with a small number of flagship tournaments. The ground-breaking structure will create a professional tennis tour for the visually impaired, based on the ethos of the ATP and ITF tours. The tour will consist of a number of established and well reviewed / highly-recommended international tournaments run by reputable organisers in locations that are financially and logistically accessible to players, with elite-level facilities and adequate human resources. The process of selecting tournaments involves analysing feedback from stakeholders across the VI/BLV tennis community. It’s all about QUALITY, not CONNECTIONS!
